Grade 8 students who formed part of this study were mostly females aged 14 years old with monthly family income of PhP 2,001.00 to PhP 4,000.00 and PhP 4,001.00 to PhP 6,000.00. Data were being gathered, collated and analyzed using relative frequency, mean, standard deviation and t-test for independent sample. The participants of this study were the randomly selected Grade 8 OHSP students subjected to investigation from November 2013 to January 2014. The researcher used the randomized pretest-posttest control group design experimental research design in order to attain such objectives. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Grade 8 Enhanced Learning Materials in Science for the Open High School Program (OHSP) under the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum in Hagonoy National High School during the school year 2013-2014. There are still more avenues left in the aspect of learning and development for the researchers to investigate in pursuit of quality functional research. More qualitative researches are being conducted at present. As answer to the research initiatives on rationalizing and developing research by the Graduate School, more dissertations ventured on qualitative investigations using phenomenological approach touching on management issues, leadership potentials, faculty development, job performance and personality attributes in relation to locus of control, dogmatism and receptivity to change. These are studies done in keeping with higher institutions unified vision for academic excellence through quality instruction and harmonized knowledge, skills, and activities to enable graduates to meet societal needs. All other research investigations delved on management, performance, discipline and leadership. The studies treat of reading comprehension and word problem analysis, instructional leadership practices of school principals and mathematical teaching competencies of teachers, and teaching-related problems and performance of Science students. The recent investigations conducted included in the latest issue zeroed in on the continuing problems in Mathematics which for years has been characterized as declining in performance and where the index of mastery has also remained low.
